Nagpapakasaya, Willie? The word is not nagpapakasaya. I can think of numerous words and terms to describe what you are doing, or who you are. Opportunistic. Calloused. Vile. Deceptive. Un-Filipino.
Nagpapakasaya? You feel irritated because the live stream showing Cory Aquino’s wake is spoiling the fun. How can you provide entertainment to the public when death is being rammed down on everyone’s throat? Lunch time is for cheap entertainment – rice tastes better with Wowowee.
I will not even try to compare you with Cory Aquino, whose death – and its commemoration – you find ill-timed and inconvenient. Doing so would insult Cory. You callousness deserves a more apt comparison. The first is to a French Queen who, when when told that the people had no bread, responded, “let them eat cake”. Incidentally, her head was chopped off when the revolution won.
But there is an even better comparison. There is another woman, one who, like you, sees giving false hopes and acts of opportunism as public service. You share the same character – you treat the people as a joke, and rake millions in the process.
The nation is not just mourning, Willie. We haven’t seen anything move the public for a long time, not after Garci or GMA. Despite grief, the nation has at least found an anchor to look for its soul. You may call it nostalgia, a melodrama, a wet blanket. For others, though, for most of us, this is called hope, and a deep yearning for it. Your show – and may I say you’re not even witty, because wit presupposes intelligence – can never encompass this emotion: your sense of humor is neither a replacement nor an equivalent of the mood of the people today.
So go ahead, have your fun. Your hubris is that one day, you’ll find yourself sharing the same spot in history with the most unpopular, most unloved woman in the country today.
I saw this yesterday too and turned the TV off….
It was obvious too, when they finally started his show (at around 1:30pm, if I recall it right) that he looked pissed that his show was pushed to the sidelines because of the live coverage…..
i absolutely agree with you…i think Will is so bastos to his staff and to other contestants as well…he will say what he wants to say without considering their feelings…i have relatives who came from the US who wanted to watch a noontime show while they are here and i assisted them since i know someone who works for the show…at first,i thought it was Wowowee they wanted to watch but instead they told me they don’t like willie revillame because they don’t like his attitude coz he is bastos…see,that came from the mouth of our dear TFC subscribers…meaning di lang pala ako ang nakakapansin sa kabastusan nya…maging mga kababayan natin sa ibang bansa…they were more interested to watch eat bulaga na lang rather than wowoweee…sana naman maging considerate si willie…we know he has good intentions,to help people who are in need pero sana maging sensitive naman cya…

Some of us weren’t old enough to see her greatness, and weren’t lucky enough to witness the whole country celebrate her triumph, as we’re out of the country. It should have been, “nalulungkot ang lahat, tapos kayo ngpapakasaya dyan?” How about that Willie? It’s sickening that noontime entertainment has been reduced to something like wowowee. It is likened to giving alms to people, only in a glam, less obvious way. Don’t tell me people go there to have fun, Willie.

hmmm….I’m curious how many people were tending their Farmshit farms on Facebook entertaining themselves with shitty virtual seeds and plants and animals while watching the coverage of Cory’s funeral…makes me wonder.

Because it’s hard to watch a show that is aimed to make you laugh and be entertained and at the same time watch Cory’s casket. Why would anyone want to watch those two together in the first place? –Shouldn’t the network have thought about that before airing both things at the same time!
I admit his words were idiotic. But he was thinking about his job as an entertainer. The goal of his show – to make people laugh. Which would be very difficult in his position – so I understand where the feelings were coming from and the thoughts on his mind.

Willy Revillame has always been rude and condescending in wowowee, he just passes it as comedy but on most days he is rude and arrogant. Since my little autistic boy enjoys his show, I sit and watch from time to time. I was livid and disgusted to hear Willy Revillame’s comment during his show about a live feed of Cory Aquino’s services. He could have handled the situation quietly with the programming people but because he is really a pompous and arrogant person, he was just his usual self, spoke his mind not thinking of the consequences. Decent people as you see in this blogs found it so distasteful. It is about time people realize that Willie Revillame is not an empathic person as they project him to be in his show. Furthermore, shame on you TFC for cutting a live coverage of a very important necrological service that was shown very early here in the east coast. I called work to notify them that I was coming in late because I was witnessing a national hero’s service until programming was cut to make way for balitang america and consequently wowowee. What is wrong with you people????? I had to scramble in the internet to see the conclusion of the service. Cant you spare a few minutes to subscribers who pay good dollar money to see coverage of Philippine events? Telenovelas, singing movie stars and cheap gossips arent just the stuff we care about and if you cant even give one decent coverage of a historic event, where is then your relevance in service with the Filipino expats?

Problema ng technical ng ABS yun e or traffic department or the people reponsible for the airtime. Malaki ang utang na loob nila kay Cory. Papayag naman siguro si Willie kung pinakiusapan na i-delay muna or i-preempt muna ang sched ng wowowee. Mejo naalanganin lang siguro talaga sila kasi. may mga advertisers na nakapagbayad ng airtime, so they need to push through, to keep the rating. Pero, para sa akin sana hindi talaga nila ginawa yung pag-singit ng live coverage sa noon-time entertainment. Lumalabas na nambabastos yung show ni Willie, e hindi naman gusto ni Willie yun. Syempre Willie has to do his job (entertaining people). Pero very inappropriate na isabay talaga yun. Kung coverage ang gusto nila eh di coverage na lang. This is exactly what the network wants – for us to react to and talk about their show to boost its ratings.
But just the same, I want to say that Willie Revillame is utterly despicable. To say that he is like wolf in sheep’s clothing – pretending to be meek and innocent when all the while he is preying on the mass’s naivete – would be a complete insult… an insult to the wolf. But there are people who are worse than Willie: the bosses and owners of the network who pretend to show they care by putting up foundations, and yet they feed the masses with such trashy shows such as Wowowee worthy only of the sewers; and of course, the sponsors that actually fund these shows. They are all earning millions – at the expense of the masses.
And Willie, no matter how hard you try, no matter how much you pretend to be maka-masa, what’s in your heart actually spills out of your mouth.

I think that Willie is just doing his job (The show must go on!). agreed with grace’s comment above. maling-mali talaga na sinabay yung broadcast. very inappropriate. at maling-mali ang pagkasabi ni willie. kung meron mang dapat mawala sa ere nang mga panahong yun, wowowee dapat yun -hindi ang coverage. unfortunately, ABS-CBN *management* is too greedy (not the production staff per se – the production staff are just people who are making a living working for a monster like willie and have no decision-making power) too stop airing this show. from a tv standpoint, these were reasons for why this show cannot not air and these are tied to binding commitments made to sponsors who have paid for sections of wowowee to be aired and expect it to air (4G, whose banners we see in the background, is an example). however, this could have been managed better – wowowee should have been preempted that day. but ABS-CBN aired both for the ratings. : -(

He probably didn’t mean to sound unpleasant, but I agree that he could have done better. Mas na-emphasize kasi yung negative effects sa kanya at sa show niya nung live coverage ng funeral. Pero kung inacknowledge niya pa nang kaunti ‘yung mourning na nagaganap (with an apology o kaya by saying “condolence”) instead of just focusing on how they should be “nagsasaya tapos pinapakita niyo ‘yan”, baka hindi na naging issue ito. At least, hindi niya nakalimutang sabihin na “kung ganyan, ipakita na lang natin ‘yan.” which may be a hint na he doesn’t mind if the show would have to give way for Cory’s funeral. And their jobs may be tough, pero may fault din ‘yung mga nag-decide na pagsabayin ‘yung coverage at Wowowee. They should have figured something out if losing advertisers for the day was not an option.
You know, that was the station management’s fault. Willie was right here. Indeed, they (ABS) should have canceled Wowowee airing that day, or perhaps, made a Wowowee tribute for Cory that day… instead of hitting two birds at the same time (two birds that were “too different” to fly together).
This is coming from someone who has ceased to be a Wowowee fan. Just being fair.

Willie is really a person who is undeniably insensitive and inconsiderable of the things happening around him. He just, for a fact, wanted his show to be always the “bida”. Even he tells the viewers that the “bida” are them, it’s not really true. And to add, he discriminates them in terms of joking. Not a good joke, I must say.

Well I think it isn’t all his fault. The management (or whatever you call them) could and should have not aired Wowowee and Former Pres. Cory Aquino’s funeral at the same time. Maybe it wasn’t well- planned. It isn’t right to judge a person. Each of us may have a different view of what Willie said. Let us not take away whatever good is in his statement.

First of all, I don’t see anything wrong with what Wowowee was saying. The network decided to air a variety show during this sad event. I get why Willie said what he said. If they’re going to show the coverage of late-(former-president) Cory Aquino, then they should’ve canceled Wowowee that day. He did say that it will be hard for him to run a show that gives away cash prizes – which does make people happy – and simultaneously show the funeral coverage. He IS sad about the event, but the network decided to continue showing Wowowee.
Whoever find what he said bad should think twice exactly what was going on his head. It has nothing to do with being inconsiderate or selfish.
I know it’s not a good comparison, but when Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson and other people here in America died, they weren’t showing the death coverage on the side during a Jay Leno Show, Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune. What they do is just not show the gameshows at all, and just show the death coverage.

Like every Filipino, I am very affected by President Cory’s death. However, I do understand where Willie is coming from. Note that I am not a fan of the show and I actually sometimes think it’s quite pathetic. I know Willie is rude and untrue, but I think we can’t blame him for this. He might be tactless and unprofessional for airing how he felt but the guy does have a point. It’s really inappropriate to show Wowowee and any funeral coverage at the same time. Let’s be objective and not just throw our comments without thinking. Setting aside our irritation on the show and disgust with its host, this is clearly ABS-CBN management’s fault.
As usual, people are overreacting. Willie did mention, “kung ganyan, pakita na lang natin yan”. Management has the final say if Wowowee will give way to the coverage of Cory’s death or not and not Willie. If they decided to continue airing Wowowee, what can Willie do but follow orders. I think everyone is forgetting that at the end of the day, hindi si Willie ang amo, may mga amo siya and all he wants is not to mix the gloom of the coverage with the fun of his show. Tama naman siya.
I’m not a fan of Willie or his show and I’ve wanted for him to get lost for years but in this instance, pagtatanggol ko siya because he just follows orders and ABS management should have ordered his show to give way to the coverage.

I agree with most of you here. Willie R is bastos, bobo unprofessional etc etc. However in fairness to him, he was right to ask management not to show Pres. Cory’s video feed while them having fun. He was uncomfortable doing the show while the whole nation weeps. He even apologized to his bosses about his comments. But being BOBO and unprofessional, he said it in front of the camera. An intelligent and professional emcee/host would have waited for a commercial break or maybe in a middle of a show, should have excused himself and asked his/her co host to continue while he goes off camera, then tell management not to show the feed.
Willie you do need help. Training for one will do you a lot good. Berating your staff or people in front of camera is a no no. It’s like your mom and dad berating you in public. Gusto mo ba yun? Be refine!

Please examine your ethics and basic manners. Yes, ABS-CBN was the first one at fault here for airing both simultaneously – but guess what? Willie could have asked management OFF THE AIR (perhaps during the commercial break) to stop the simulcast! Instead, he gave a rant ON THE AIR, using the worst choices of words possible. It does not matter if what he wanted to convey was well-meant, it still came out grossly disrespectful, selfish, and greedy.
In short, Willie is also to blame. There is NO excuse to do an ON-AIR rant when any host with an iota of breeding would have made the request off the air, and with manners, to boot.
Willie Revillame has done a lot of disgusting, low, offensive, and perverted things in his entire career. This just proves it further and to an even greater degree.
He could have said it in a nicer way, or even tell his producers off the air but that is not Willy’s way. I have total respect for Cory and mourn her passing … and although I do not particularly like Willie Revillame and Wowowie … I do understand that the guy is contractually bound to go ahead with a HAPPY show. He was just doing his job.

i agree with you aisa except for the “good entertainer” bit. i’m sorry i beg to disagree that willie is a good entertainer. not everyone who can hold the microphone and face the audience can be called a good entertainer. all he does in his show is to mock the people’s poverty by lacing it with the covers of his charade of helping them win money in his show. they win money how? they win money by losing their dignity on national tv. they win by begging. by crying in front of camera, with a relative or family on the audience side, squeezing more lacrimal ducts to produce more tears. then that way, more sponsors will be so heart-crushed they will shell out more money. i don’t blame these people. it’s their chance.maybe their only chance to get that money. but i blame these people who thrive on these poor people’s misfortune to sell their show.
i remember watching other noontime shows ( eat bulaga, sang linggo napo sila) when i was still in the philippines, and i remember the hosts almost giving the contestant every clue what to choose so they can get the prize. you could see they don’t want these poor people go home empty-handed. in wowowee, they do the exact opposite. and more. strip them of dignity, portray them as beggars. and make them maglaway sa P100,000.00 so they would choose pera and don’t get the P1million in bayong.
i don’t watch wowowee religiously but i had the unfortunate chance of seeing it quite a number of times everytime i attend lunches with my friends in their homes who have tfc subscription. honestly, i didn’t like what i see. why not think of decent games where these people can win prizes without losing their dignity, instead of showcasing them as beggars.for goodness sakes, they are human beings.
and to make the matter worse, revillame didn’t even show some decency when he threw up a tantrum on air and ordered the former president’s cortege taken out of the traffic just because it didn’t suit his show.
to those who are still saying he’s just doing his job and that he’s in contract to do the show despite the national mourning, c’mon, please use a little bit of common sense here. is it still part of his contract to question the decision of his management to show mrs. aquino’s cortege simultaneously with his show.is it part of his contract that he can do that on air?
to mtrcb and the rest of the people: do we just let this kind of pompous person off the hook just like that? so many youngsters watch his show. what kind of morals and values he show them? i don’t have anything personal against this man. i don’t even know the man other than the one i see on tv. and it’s not a good person i see. he seemed to have a role confusion as well. he’s the host. he’s not the boss. it’s high time we review the protocols again. remove rubbish shows and hosts. give us shows and people who can make us proud, shows and hosts we can learn good things from.it’s an appeal.
Since the issue of YES! Magazine about Willie and his so called fame and fortune I got turned off already by this person. I think ABS-CBN should have opted not to show wowowee that day to avoid such things. I think Willie is partly correct in saying that if ABS wants to have fun then THEY SHOULD NOT MIX COVERAGE of a BURIAL with the SHOW.

i am not a fan of willie nor a kapamilya televiewer coz i watch shows from both stations, depending on the type of segments i find interesting to watch for.
My personal view is both sides were at fault (ABS-CBN and WR). In the first place, the management would have solely shown either of the show coz it really is very improper to be airing two opposite sights. And dating kasi eh parang nag-aarimuhunan ang management sa kikitain nila o sa kung ano pa man. ABS should have prioritized to aire the funeral coverage in respect to the one who has sacrificed her safety, her personal and private family life, as we all know. Above and beyond, she brought the democracy back to the Filipino citizenry…BEAR THAT IN MIND! I dont think, a single day, will be a big loss for ABS as her patriotism itself is PRICELESS. Commemorating and giving her that due respect were the only ways we can pay back…at least.. what she has sacrificed for. And yet….nasa kabilang buhay na yung tao, may issue pa! Remember.. she deserves to be in “peace” and has sought for “peace”, eversince.
On the part of willie.. how disrespectful, arrogant, egoistic, etc. he was, to have said such statements!!! Regardless, if it was said on air or not. First of all, with all due respect to Cory fanatics out there, Cory is the reason why the Philippine economy turned to its worst, although GMA managed to make it. Do not blame her though, she does not know how to run the government. People used her Cardinal Sin used her. So much for the past though, the point it Cory Aquino is not the great person everyone portrays her to be. Democracy is not for the Philippines because the people does not know how to handle it.
As for the TV Host Willie, one thing he could have done is to stop the dancer, asked for a minute of silence then politely ask to turn the view over to the funeral. But I do not condone what he did! Why, he has a mandate as any professional would know you have a job to do and you need to do it. He is just vocal and straightforward about it.
I do not understand these rants about what he did, unless you have a moral authority to say that he did a bad thing then do not do so! Who has the moral authority to do so in this country? The church? Forget it! How many times have they plunged the country in chaos with all their meddling in politics, how many cases have been filed against gay priests etc. etc. The government? Forget it! As mentioned in the bible when the people are about to stone the woman to death, those who has no sin may cast the first stone.
